Hawkins County Commission Bans Stumps, Keeps Soapboxes

Apparently, at the June 23, 2008 meeting of the county commission, a local politician jumped on a stump to do a lil’ campaigning. (If I’m not mistaken it was State Rep. candidate Richard Gabriel.)

Consequently, the Hawkins County Legislative Board of Commissioners has decided the meetings can no longer be used as a political forum. They voted this morning to ban all partisan stumps.

According to the resolution, Citizen Soapboxes are still allowed.

The commission also approved several E-911 board appointments.

Tammy Davis was appointed to four year term expiring June 30, 2012.  Stanley Case was reappointed to a four year term, and Roy Charles will serve a one year term expiring June 30, 2009.  Patrick Fraley will serve as the County Representative, replacing County Mayor Crockett Lee.  He will serve a two-year term expiring June 30, 2010.
