Slain Soldier's Parents Sue

Greeneville Sun reports that the parents of Sgt. Brandon Michael Read, a 2001 Greeneville High School graduate killed in Iraq in 2004 by a roadside bomb, have filed a $10 million lawsuit against the owner of an Arizona company that sells T-shirts bearing the names of soldiers killed in Iraq.

The lawsuit says that in September 2006, Robin Read learned that Lifeweaver LLC and operator Dan Fraser were “selling, for profit, ‘anti-war T-shirts’ with the names of all of the thousands of American service members killed in Iraq.”

Among those names was that of Brandon Read, according to the suit.

The lawsuit also says the defendants continued to produce items bearing dead soldiers’ names even though “on May 24, 2007, Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano signed into law legislation making it illegal to utilize the names of those killed in the service of their country in the recent Iraq war without their families’ permission.”
