According to WJHL, the Holston Army Ammunition Plant in Kingsport hosted rescue crews from Hawkins County, Kingsport and Mt. Carmel, during special training at the plant Thursday. Because the plant produces explosives, they see their facility as a potential target for terrorists.
HAAP may also be a target for Bob Corker and his crusade to end congressional earmarks. (In the last federal budget HAAP received approximately $4,500,000.00 in earmarks, although Corker has suggested adding a line item in the federal budget for munitions and allowing HAAP to compete as a supplier on merit.)
According to personnel who attended the training, they were offered no advice on how to fend off Corker and his distaste for pork barrels.
