Will the Celebration Include Gifts?

I just discovered by way of Volunteer Voters that today might have been Nathan Bedford Forrest Day.  Kleinheider has a copy of the proclamation posted over there & sure enough, it says:

NOW, THEREFORE, I Phil Bredesen, Governor of the State of Tennessee, do hereby proclaim Sunday, July 13, 2007, as NATHAN BEDFORD FORREST DAY.

My memory may be failing – but wasn’t Forrest also a wealthy slave trader and the first  grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan? If so, I’m not sure how I feel about this. However, before I officially denounce the holiday, I need to know: can we have parties and will there be presents for me?
