The Citizen Tribune reports that a Cherokee High School senior, scheduled to graduate May 24, died Thursday evening while fishing with friends on Cherokee Lake.
Brian Steven Carroll, 18, died after falling off Cedar Hill Boat Dock, according to Hamblen County authorities. Witnesses said Carroll and his friends were sitting on the dock fishing when he reportedly stood up to cast his line, started shaking and fell into the water.
His friends said they jumped into the water but couldn’t reach him. They said he never flailed and never struggled. They never saw any air bubbles.”
Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene and immediately began dragging the lake. The youth’s body was recovered approximately two hours later in 35 feet of water.
Chief Wayne Mize of the Hamblen County Sheriff’s Department could not confirm if the youth had a history of epilepsy or any other health conditions that may have contributed to the incident.
He did rule out any possibility of foul play.
